Cork is one of Mother Nature’s most extraordinary products. The all-natural material comes from the bark the cork oak tree (Quercus Suber L.) and is comprised fully of natural plant tissue.

Our carbonized cork is comprised of 100% natural outer bark from the cork-wood oak tree that’s harvested in a way that does not harm the tree and is produced without any additives. These properties ensure that our Cortiça Garden living wall systems are healthier and more environmental-friendly than any other vertical garden wall system on the market today.

Strengths carbonized Cork board for vertical garden

  • 100% Natural cork, Hypoallergenic : The bark of cork tree has been carbonized and formed a board.
  • Ingredient of carbonized cork board – Peat-moss, Natural Oak, Bark. The peat-moss and the bark are one of the best soils in growth of the plants. And adding of sphagnum moss by wrapping the root helps ventilation, hydration and the drain of water for the plants.
  • Anti-bacterial : Reduction of bacterial rate 99.9%(test result), controls of temperature and humidity prevents the harmful effect for the plants
  • Impermeable to liquids and gases : prevents over hydration except the pot and the plants.
  • Excellent elasticity and compressibility, Good resilience. Plastics or the steels are hard so that the root of the plant can’t set in but the elasticity of the cork helps the root to settle down.
  • Excellent thermal insulation : Helps roots and plants in cold and hot weather condition.
  • Panel in board shape : Lets plant to set on the wall and reduction of energy is high.

The peat-moss which is one of the ingredient of cork board, helps formatting the organics in the soil. The acidity of carbonized cork board is PH4~5 which prevents dryness of the soil and lets rootlets to grow well.

Temperature: The plants growing on the ground need their root to be grown and go down under 10cm ( 4inches) from the surface of the ground to not freeze, but the root won’t freeze on our boards even though root is planted and grows into only 7.5cm (3inches).

Tropical plants 25~35℃ (77-95 degrees Fahrenheit), temperate plants 15~25℃ (59- 77degrees Fahrenheit), polar plants 10~20℃ (50-68 degrees faherenheit) is recommended)

Disease and harmful insects: Less affected due to the nature of the corkboard and the sphagnum moss (indoor). The death rate of plants due to disease from harmful insects is low which helps to save cost on plant maintenance and replacement. For outdoor planting using without moss but soil, we recommend pesticide treatment during maintenance.

Depending on the type of plants and hanging location, we think that every 10 days is about the right time interval to nurture and water your plants.
